Requirements :

  • Appropriate qualification (Specialist in Anaesthetics). Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) plus 3 years’ experience after registration with HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Anaesthetics. HPCSA current registration is mandatory. Must have a strong record of clinical governance; clinical expertise; training and teaching at both under- and post-graduate levels. Publication record and experience in managing clinical units will be an added advantage. Must have good interpersonal, leadership, communication, analytical and problem-solving skills. Fair Understanding of basic Human Resource Finance legislation , regulations policies and frameworks. A valid driver’s license. Knowledge of relevant Health and Public Service legislation, regulations and policies including medical ethics. Have the ability to evaluate new technologies and decide on the cost-effective implementation thereof. A valid driver’s license .

Duties :

  • Provide strategic leadership , management and supervision within the Department of Anaesthesia at RMMCH and the University of the Witwatersrand (WITS). Provide excellent clinical and surgical service delivery, Implement teaching and training program and relevant research. Liaise with other specialties and clinicians in the cluster to provide comprehensive Anaesthetic services. Implement management initiatives to improve theatre efficiency, co-management of theatre backlog projects to ensure timeous access to pregnant women to theatre when required. Responsible for the teaching and training program of under- and postgraduate students in Anaesthesia. Responsible for management activities within the Anaesthesia department, including related management activities within RMMCH and WITS to maintain the quality of outputs while ensuring optimum utilization of fiscal and human resources, and the timeous reporting and redress of Patient Safety Incidents. Management and control of equipment. Participate in relevant Governance structures and management committees. Initiate, undertake, and supervise relevant research in Anaesthesia including the supervision of MMeds. Contribute to electronic databases for research purposes. Strategize and implement outreach programmes. Provide after hour specialist services. Manage human and financial resources , assets and materials .
