Requirements :

  • Grade 12/National Senior Certificate. Basic nursing qualification accredited with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) in terms of Government Notice 425 (i.e. diploma/degree) or equivalent qualification that allows registration with SANC as a nurse and midwife/accoucheur. Registration with SANC in Clinical Nursing Science, Health Assessment Treatment and Care R.48/Primary Care Nursing R.635, Nursing Education and Nursing Management. Registration as a constituent assessor and moderator with the South African Nursing Council. A master’s degree in nursing. Current registration with the SANC. A minimum of nine years (9) recognizable/appropriate experience after registration as a professional nurse with SANC. At least five years (5) of the period referred to above must be appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing education after obtaining the post-basic qualification in Nursing Education. Experience in academic assessments. Knowledge of procedures and processes related to basic and post-basic nursing programmes. Knowledge of academic requirements, relevant acts and legislation, code of ethics and professional practice of SANC. Skills: Computer literacy in Microsoft Office. Sound communication skills. Problem solving and conflict resolution skills. Ability to function effectively under pressure. A valid driver’s license with a minimum code B.

Duties :

  • Coordinate and manage the provision of education and training to student nurses. Manage the work integrated learning of student nurses between campus and clinical areas. Develop and manage the implementation of quality assurance programmes. Human resource management including orientation, supervision, and appraisal of staff members in the academic department. Participate in the presentation of academic programmes, theory and work integrated learning (WIL). Supervise marking and moderation of theoretical and WIL assessments. Provide academic support to student nurses. Oversee the supervision of student nurses. Develop, review, and evaluate the curriculum and academic programmes. Conduct and participate in the research relevant to nursing education. Collaborate with stakeholders and build sound relationships. Serve as chairperson/member on relevant academic/management committees. Participate in management of the campus.
