Requirements :

  • Interested candidates should have a BSc Degree in Occupational Therapy. Currently registered with the HPCSA as an Independent Practice Occupational Therapist. One year community service experience completed. Experience in Mental Health will be an added advantage.

Duties :

  • To provide optimal and evidence based Occupational Therapy individual and group treatment for in and out patients within all the units of the HJH OT department, including but not limited to the Psychiatry unit. Administer standardised and clinical assessments to patients requiring FCEs and other clinical reports. Facilitate the referral process for in-patients (i.e. down referrals, etc.). To provide essential undergraduate student, pupil, community service and other clinical and non-clinical supervision as part of the package of services provided departmentally. Participate in the mentorship and training of community service therapists and students programs. Assist with unit management of OT psych services. To perform and complete departmental administrative functions including data compilation, stock management, various internal and external meetings, submission of monthly reports in all sectors. Plan and prepare for all internal and external audits within the hospital as well as departmentally. Assist in the administration of PMDS and evaluation of junior level staff. Participate and implement the departmental policy on training and continuous professional development. To ensure departmental standards are met for effective patient service delivery, in line with the Ideal Hospital Framework. Knowledge of current health and public service legislation, regulations and policies. Sound knowledge of clinical theory, practice and ethics relating to the delivery of Occupational Therapist services within a hospital setting especially within the Mental Health sector. Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team and in a changing environment and under pressure through interpersonal relationships, ward rounds and meetings etc.
