Requirements :

  • Basic qualification accredited with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) that allows registration with the SAPC as a Pharmacist. registration with the SAPC as a Pharmacist. A minimum of three (3) years’ appropriate experience after registration with SAPC as a Pharmacist. The following will serve as an added advantage: Previous exposure to procurement processes in the public sector pharmaceutical environment will be an added advantage. Working knowledge on the Rx Solutions system. Experience at a supervisory level. Competencies: Knowledge of the Standard Treatment Guidelines and Essential Medicines List. Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies, record keeping and drug supply management. Leadership and strategic planning skills. Presentation skills. Financial management skills. Duties :

  • Management within the pharmacy or unit: To deputize for the Responsible Pharmacist when necessary and accept responsibility for the department and its operations. Manage respective units and all personnel reporting to you, including rosters, schedules and leave management. Ensure implementation & compliance to standard operating procedures, statutory regulations and relevant legislature. (GPP, GMP, and PFMA incl. cost containment measures & Auditor General requirements). Facilitating compliance to the Ideal Hospital Framework prescripts and OHSC requirements. Development of Quality Improvement Plans. Provision of financial, budget and expenditure management, with a focus on procurement practices and ensuring sound management of the annual pharmaceutical services budget. Preparation of reports e.g. ABC analysis, VEN analysis and budget commitment register. Preparation of estimates/information/statistics for the pharmacy as and when required. Demand planning and forecasting on medication use. Recording, reporting and maintenance of documents. Oversee expired stock and disposal processes, to prevent fruitless and wasteful expenditure. Effective and efficient procurement management in accordance with the Public Finance Management Act, National Treasury regulations and Provincial Policies. Ensure 98% availability of medication, including supervision of the buy-out processes and the impact on the budget. Monitoring of tender expiries. Ensure effective stock control systems in place that are in line with auditor general requirements. Ensure that Section 21 procedures for procurement are in place & followed correctly by health professionals. Supervision of the bi-annual stock-take. Promote the use of the Standard Treatment Guidelines and Essential Medicines List. Pharmacovigilance. Manage and/or assist with periodic Medicine Utilization Reviews and advise on Medicine Supply Management. To provide expert advice and communication to management on matters relating to procurement, logistic and use of medication. Focus on availability of medicines and communication thereof to the relevant stakeholders to ensure minimal impact on patients. The provision of HR management within your allocated departments, which includes but is not limited to: PMDS of staff, HR administration, Labour relations, Training and development, and the management and supervision of all subordinates who report directly to him/her. Registration as a tutor with SAPC for the purpose of training Pharmacist interns and Pharmacist Assistants. Project management within the pharmacy department. Ensure participation of staff in research. Co-ordination of training and development. Provision of strategic direction to the pharmacy, which will include serving as a member on various committees at the institution and within the province, conducting relevant meetings as delegated, including secretarial support for the PTC meetings and its sub- committees. Implementation of the resolutions following meetings. Updating of the formulary and distribution thereof for implementation within the hospital. Facilitate the development of institutional guidelines on medication usage to ensure the rational use of medicines. Ensure the provision of effective, efficient, and quality pharmaceutical services in line with Batho Pele principles, by taking responsibility for the patient’s medicine-related needs and being accountable for meeting these needs. This will include but is not limited to: Evaluation of the patient medicine-related needs by determining the indication, safety, and effectiveness of the therapy, dispensing of any medicine or scheduled substance on a prescription of a person authorized to prescribe medicine, provision of comprehensive patient counselling & furnishing of information and advice to any person with regards to the use of medicine, determining compliance with therapy and follow up to ensure that the patient’s medicine-related needs are being met and liaising with clinical staff on patient challenges regarding inappropriate handling and use of medication. Comply with six quality priorities and Batho Pele Principles.
