Requirements :

  • Basic medical degree (MBBCh or equivalent) that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Practitioner by September 2024. Proof of current registration for the year 2024/2025 is essential. Grade 1: No experience required after registration as Medical Practitioner with the HPCSA. Interest in acute and emergency care is advantageous. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Independent and effective decision-making. ATLS or equivalent/ACLS/APLS/PALS certificates will be advantageous. Diploma in Primary Emergency Care (DipPEC) and emergency ultrasound accreditation also advantageous. Commuted overtime is mandatory.

Duties :

  • Evaluation and clinical management of patients referred to the Emergency Department. Counselling and education of patients and families. Proper clinical record keeping. Participation in Emergency Department administration (Morbidity and mortality meetings and audits). Participation in the academic training programme. Supervision and teaching of interns and undergraduate students. Commitment to maintaining a high level of ethics, professionalism and responsibility to patients, including punctuality. Ability to work in a team.
