Requirements :

  • Bachelor of Social Work qualification that allows professional registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP) as a Social Worker. A minimum of 10 years’ appropriate experience in social work after registration as Social Worker with SACSSP. Three (3) years’ experience on a Supervisory level will be an added advantage. Must be computer literate and have a valid driver’s license. Knowledge of Public Service legislation, policies and procedures pertaining to social work. Sound knowledge of National and Provincial Health programme strategies, priorities and indicators. Extensive Knowledge of Heath Care Social Work standard operating procedures. Must be able to function independently and seek guidance when necessary. Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, presentation and liaison). Must have good statistical and analytical skills. A high level of diligence and commitment in ensuring that all duties are performed within tight timeframes and outputs are of required quality. Must be able to manage and lead a team.

Duties :

  • Display leadership in the management of social work department (planning, organizing, coordinating, monitoring, evaluation and implementation). Ensure that qualitative social work services are rendered in all sections of the hospital. Manage and monitor staff matters, financial and clinical resources. Develop operational plans and give input regarding provincial strategic plans. Participate in different forums, meetings and committees where input is required regarding health care social work. Address patient complains and patient safety incidents as per guidelines within set timeframes. Support teaching, training and research activities in the department and institution. Liaise with relevant internal and external stakeholders. Be an active member of the clinical support and therapeutic services team. Oversee and conduct clinical audits as per guidelines and participate in Ideal Hospital Realization framework activities. Participate in and oversee continued Professional Development activities and staff development in the social work department. Conduct regular staff meetings and participate in institutional and profession specific meetings when required. Response timeously to legislative queries. Ensure compliance with Performance Management and Development System guidelines and timelines. Provide consultation and supervision to social work staff. Ensure that administrative requirements are adhered to such as recordkeeping, statistics. Submit progress reports regarding patients as required by management.
