Requirements :

  • Basic qualification accredited with the SANC in terms of Government notice R425 (i.e Diploma/Degree in Nursing) or equivalent qualification that allows registration with the SANC as a professional nurse plus a post-basic nursing qualification, with duration of at least 1 year, accredited with the SANC in terms of Government Notice No R212 in the relevant specialty (Occupational Health Nursing Practitioner). Knowledge of legal prescripts that regulate nursing and health services. Competencies/knowledge/skills: Leadership and ward administration / management skills, computer literacy i.e (Ms Word, PowerPoint). Ability to work independently and innovate, problem solving, communication and decision-making skills. Strong leaderships , conflict resolution and sound interpersonal are necessary. Extensive knowledge in all relevant OHS legislation and ideal Hospital Framework. COIDA processes Dol and compensation Fund. Customer service (Batho-Pele Principle) Report writing skills guidelines on COIDA. Planning , organization and demonstration of empathy and advocacy skills towards employee patients.

Duties :

  • Operationalize and evaluate quality of Occupational Health Nursing service rendered for employees as directed by professional scope of practice and set Nursing standards within a professional/ legal framework. Designs employee medical surveillance programs together with Occupational Medicine Practitioner based o0n health risk assessment outcomes. Develop and implement Occupational Health Service (OH) for employees. Work collaboratively with other professionals as a leader and member of the Occupational Health and Safety team. Ensure accurate recording and reporting of statistics on all Occupational related incidences. Participate in Hazard Risk Assessment Identification and OHS Annual Audit at the hospital. Ensure medical management of all injuries of duty in the scope of Occupational Health Nursing and refer to Occupational Medical Practitioner in cases that needs to consult further. Continuously liaise with stakeholders to ensure to ensure efficient Occupational Health Nursing care for all medical emergencies and specialist referrals to optimize health restoration of employees. Manage resources effectively and efficiently in the Occupational Health Clinic. Compile, analyses and submit monthly reports to Assistant Director: OHS and Nursing Management for compliance purposes for the hospital. Advocates for the awareness of employees in terms of workplace hazards an or Occupational stressors. Be active in research and self-development. Supervise the subordinate nursing professionals at the Occupational Health Clinic. Attend compulsory OHS Committee meeting and Nursing Management meetings. Develop protocols and SOPS for the effective and implementation of OHS. Support the output of Occupational Health and Safety Department towards compliance with the OHS and COID ACT; hence meeting the Operational Plan objective and targets. Employees will be required to work shifts.
