Requirements :

  • Basic R425 qualification (i.e. diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent qualification that allows registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse. A post-basic nursing qualification with a duration of at least 1 year accredited with SANC in advanced midwifery and Neonatal Nursing Science. Current registration with the SANC as a professional nurse. A minimum of 4 years of appropriate/recognizable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing. Demonstrate effective communication with patients, supervisors, and other clinicians, including report writing when required. Able to plan and organize own work and that of support personnel to ensure proper maternal and neonatal care. Ability to work independently and innovatively. Knowledge of legal prescripts that regulate nursing and health services. Decision-making and problem-solving abilities within the limit of the public sector and institutional policy framework.

Duties :

  • Provide holistic specialized nursing care within set standards and a legal/professional framework. To develop and ensure the implementation of nursing care plans. To participate in quality improvement programs and clinical audits. Maintain accreditation standards through quality improvement and infection control standards and guidelines. To uphold the Batho Pele and Patients’ Rights Charter Principles. Maintain accurate and complete patient records according to legal requirements. Participate in staff, student, and patient teaching. Ensure ongoing education and in-service training of EMTCT, BFHI, and ESMOE. Participate in implementing priority programs to reduce morbidity and mortality rates, and communicable and non-communicable diseases. Ensure the use of Maternal and child-updated protocols and guidelines in the hospital. Demonstrate a basic understanding of HR and financial policies and practices by proper management of resources (human, material, and financial). Act as a shift leader in the unit (where necessary).
