Requirements :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or Honours degree in Psychology from an accredited institution. Current registration with HPCSA, as a Registered Counsellor. A valid driver’s license. Computer literate with presentation skills. Grade 1 - Registration with HPCSA as a Counsellor or Psychometrist. Grade 2 – a minimum of 8 years appropriate experience after registration with the HPCSA as a Counsellor. Grade 3 – a minimum of 16 years appropriate experience after registration with the HPCSA as Councillor. Brief intervention skills, counseling, trauma debriefing, group facilitation, presentation, risk assessment, report writing, networking, stress tolerance, adaptability, problem-solving skills and be able to work independently and within a team environment.

Duties :

  • Provision of mental health services to ensure that there is sufficient capacity for mental health screening, referral, and care in the primary health care (PHC) clinics which will strengthen the community mental health services. Building capacity for users (service users and their families) to provide appropriate self-help and peer led services, such as support groups. Promote mental health and prevention interventions in keeping with the national and provincial priorities. Conduct routine screening for mental illnesses across the developmental lifespan (child-to-adulthood). The management of non-complex mental health conditions through the provision of brief interventions, supportive counselling, debriefing, individual and group counselling. Adhere to the HPCSA standards and the Departmental policies. Provide support, guidance, and mentoring to Registered Counsellors. Coordinate and allocate duties to Registered Counsellors. Facilitate mental health support groups. Attend meetings and training that have been approved by the head of unit. Comply with the Performance Management and Development system. Report directly to a Clinical Psychologist.
