Requirements :

  • Degree in Occupational Therapy and registration with HPCSA as an Occupational Therapist. Currently registered with the HPCSA as an independent Occupational Therapist. One year community service completed. Experience in setting up programs for mental health care users. knowledge of mental health legislation and related legal and ethical practices. Knowledge of public service acts and regulations. Computer literacy is essential. Report writing skills, good communication and interpersonal skills. The candidate must be proactive, innovative, be able to work independently and under pressure. ability to work within a multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic patient care.

Duties :

  • Provide an occupational therapy services to Mental Health Care Users (Acute and chronic) in a hospital setting. Execute optimal Occupational Therapy individual and group treatment for in and out patients primarily for mental care users within an MDT setting. Follow relevant policies and SOP's within the Occupational Therapy Department. Administer standardized and clinical assessments to patients requiring FCE's and other clinical reports. Contribute to the awareness promotion campaigns. Execute all patients and departmental related administrative tasks including PMDS, data compilation, stock management, attend various internal and external audits in the meetings and submission of monthly reports. Plans and prepare for all internal and external audits in the hospital. Participate in the training of community service therapists and students. Participate and implement the departmental policy on training and continuous professional development to ensure compliance to departmental standards and effective patient service delivery, in line with provincial and national standards.

Candidates in possession of a foreign qualification will be required to furnish the Department with an evaluation certificate from the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). HR will conduct Personnel Suitability Checks (PSC) and Verification Checks. The Department reserve the right to conduct verification beyond information provided, where necessary. Failure to submit all the relevant information mentioned above with the exception of HR verification checks, will result in the candidate being disqualify.
