Requirements :

Bachelor’s degree/National Diploma in Environmental Health. Current registration with the HPCSA as an Environmental Health Practitioner. Experience: Grade 1: Community service in environmental health. Grade 2: A minimum of 10 years of appropriate experience in the Environmental Health profession after registration with the Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA). Grade 3: 20 years and more relevant experience after registration with HPCSA as an Environmental Health Practitioner. Knowledge and ability to apply relevant Environmental health-related Acts and Legislation. knowledge and application of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations as amended. Knowledge of mental health settings. Knowledge of environmental health management and climate change principles. Interpersonal and good communication skills (both written and verbal). Computer literacy. A valid driver’s license.
Duties :
-
Responsible for implementing environmental health strategies, Surveillance, and prevention of communicable disease (OBR), Malaria control, Management of health care waste & occupational hygiene in health care facilities, NGOs and mental health facilities. Responsible for environmental hygiene, pollution control and water monitoring. Monitoring and control of hazardous substances. Collaboration with other external stakeholders and other health programmes. Coordinate and manage Environmental health and all relevant training programmes in the district. Conduct any work related to Environmental health services as required by the department and within the scope of practice of environmental health. Increase health safety and awareness at all levels within the District. Apply all Environmental Health principles within health facilities, mental health facilities and NGO’s . Working with the mental health teams, conducting audits, and monitoring compliance on all mental health facilities. Investigate and report all OHS compliance and non-compliance within the workplace. Ensuring that all OHS rules are observed and complied with. Participate in all special events. Assist with OHS structures within the workplace. Attend and facilitate OHS meetings, attend to all OHS complaints from employees regarding their health and safety. Develop and monitor emergency preparedness, participate in the development of SOP’s and other protocols . Compile monthly reports, OHS and HIRA audits and reporting. Compile weekly plans.
