Requirements :

  • Bachelor of Medicine registered with HPCSA. FCOG part 1 and/or Dip Obst qualification is an added advantage. Current registration with HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner. Demonstrating knowledge of contemporary medical practice and procedures appropriate to the level of the position, competent in range of routine and common procedural ward-based skills, specifically in relation to obstetrics and gynaecology management and assessment. The ability to work both as a member of a team and individually. Along with high level skills in problem solving and decision making, you will bring the ability to communicate confidently and appropriately with patients and their families.

Duties :

  • Manage the care of patients allocated to the Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department at Dr George Mukhari Academic hospital. This will be achieved in consultation with the responsible Consultants, GP Obstetricians, Nurses and Midwives and Allied Health professionals. Maintain a high standard of care for inpatients, ensuring accurate clinical handover at the change of daily shifts and keeping high quality records of patient care. The incumbent will be responsible for assessment and management of uncomplicated deliveries and complicated pregnancies. Manage gynaecology patients including outpatients for diagnosis, assess suitability with indications for surgical procedures, refer appropriately to sub-specialties within the department like oncology and other departments after consultation with the specialist within the department. Attend elective and emergency theatre operating sessions on a scheduled basis. Attend outpatient clinics and antenatal clinics. Manage the labour ward in partnership with the midwifery team, pre-admission clinics and provide care to patients in Accident and Emergency as required. Actively contribute to continuous quality improvement activities and education activities within the practice setting, along with supervising medical students and interns. Attend and present at departmental academic meetings like morbidity and mortality meetings, journal club meetings and perform research to be presented locally and nationally including internationally if accepted.
