Requirements :

  • Grade 12 plus an appropriate qualification that allows registration with the HPCSA as Medical Practitioner, HPCSA registration as an independent medical practitioner. Proof of current HPCSA registration, EM primaries, any three of the following short courses: BLS, ACLS, PALS, ATLS and/or APLS. The following will be regarded as added advantages: DipPEC, EMPRET ECG Course, Basic Ultrasound Course or 6 months under an Emergency Medicine Specialist. The incumbent will rotate at accredited training sites to gain practical exposure and work experience in the practice of Accident and Emergency over 4 years. The University of Pretoria will facilitate the completion of the MMed in Accident and Emergency.

Duties :

  • Provide clinical care of all surgical patients. Participate in all activities of the discipline in relation to teaching and research, participate in departmental audit activities, prepare and write reports. Supervise junior doctors (undergraduate students, interns and community service doctors). Attend relevant administrative meetings like mortality meetings. Completing MEDICO Legal Documents timeously (e.g. death reports). Participate in departmental meetings, journal clubs, case presentations, lectures and ward rounds. Ensure effective administration and secure record keeping n the department. Rendering of after-hour (night, weekend and public holiday) duties to provide continuous uninterrupted care of patients. The incumbent will be rotated through related departments at various hospitals that are teaching hospitals for the University of Pretoria including outreach programmes.
