Requirements :

  • Grade 12 plus National Diploma (NQF Level 6)/Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Level 7) in Natural Science or relevant qualification as recognized by SAQA. 0-2 years’ appropriate/recognisable experience in Nature Conservation/Biodiversity Management environment. Studies and experience in Botanical science and plant ecology, Registration with SACNASP will be an added advantage. A Valid drivers’ license. Competencies: Computer Literacy. Good verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of GPG and Nature Conservation/Environment policies and procedures. Knowledge of relevant strategies, legislation and Public Service Regulations. Good Planning and organizing skills. GIS skills will be beneficial. Ability to work independently and under pressure.

Duties :

  • Mapping and monitoring of threatened plant species, including fieldwork. Conduct and assist with directorate biodiversity monitoring programmes, including annual vegetation monitoring on Provincial Reserves. Database management and herbarium specimens preparation. Contribute to the C-Plan project for conservation planning. Provide sound technical and decision support regarding protection of threatened plants and ecosystem. Handle routine procurement. Attend and participate constructively in sub-directorate and directorate meetings as required. This may include preparing inputs, making presentations, assisting with the administration of meetings. Provide comment on documents, policies, organisational procedures etc. as required. Collaborate with other external organisations or governmental departments including participate in meetings, provide scientific data, information and advice as needed, and review documents and publications. Write and submit all reports on time as required. Keep databases updated. Keep a good working relationship with all relevant stakeholders. Attend personnel meetings (divisional, departmental, etc). Back-to-office reports for inter-provincial meetings and with relevant stakeholders. Keep Logbook (Subsidized/GG/Scheme B). Prepare Monthly/Quarterly/Annual and project progress report.
