Requirements :

  • Grade 12 plus Honours Degree (NQF Level 8) in Natural/ Physical Science/ Chemical Engineering as recognised by SAQA. Minimum of 6 years’ relevant experience within environmental Field. Valid drivers’ license. COMPETENCIES: Computer Literacy, Good communication, writing and networking skills. Ability and competency in developing, interpreting, implementing and reviewing policies, legislations and guidelines. Knowledge of organizing and conducting public participation processes. Knowledge and understanding of applicable relevant National Environmental Management policies, Acts and Legislations, Environmental management instruments, norms or standards and spatial development tools.

Duties :

  • Provide expect technical and procedural advice to stakeholders e.g consultants, local authorities, international organisations, NGO’s and other departments and applicants. Review, interpret and evaluate applications and associated documentation according to established norms and standards. Determine information and procedural requirements for applications. Conduct site inspections required by applications. Draft/ recommend environmental authorisations for HoD consideration and authorisation. Co-ordinate and facilitate EIA review panels (teams) for complex and contentious applications. Gather/compile/disseminate relevant information on Environment Outlook. Provide technical inputs at relevant forums and committees. Review and provide comments on environmental issues identified through the execution of other departments mandates/processes e.g Mining reports, CARA applications, planning applications. Provide information to internal clients to enable effective and efficient cross-functioning of integrated environmental management. Initiate, plan, co-ordinate and participate in specially assigned projects (with defined timeframes and deliverable eg. Develop guideline on public participation). Problem statement, Information gathering, analysis of inform and present results, eg. Reports, maps, guidelines etc. Contribute to compilation of reports as required. Control assets allocated to projects. Provide mentorship, expert, technical and procedural advice to other components pertaining to EIA processes. Comply with the Public Service prescripts. Provide inputs into the development of internal standards and guidelines.
