Requirements :

  • Grade 12 plus Honours degree (NQF level 8) as in Natural Resource Management, Natural Resource Economics, Nature Conservation, Conservation Biology, Biological Science, Natural Science, Wildlife Management, or relevant qualifications as recognised by SAQA . Minimum of 6 years’ experience working in a relevant Biodiversity/Wildlife Management/Nature conservation environment. A valid driver’s licence. COMPETENCIES: Knowledge and understanding of Biodiversity Economy Program, relevant SA environmental and biodiversity legislation and able to apply them. Management of information. Knowledge of biodiversity conservation principles. Policy development and analysis, Program and Project Management. Computer literacy, including knowledge of GIS. Statistical analysis and modelling. Good report writing skills. People management skills. Good administration, Planning and organizing skills. Good problem-solving ability. Presentation skills. Knowledge of Cartagena Protocol on Access and Benefit Sharing.

Duties :

  • Promote sustainable use of natural resources in line with the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD); Gauteng Nature Conservation Ordinance; Threatened or Protected Species (TOPS) Regulations; Bioprospecting, Access and Benefit-sharing (BABS) Regulations and National Environment Management: Biodiversity Act (NEMBAA). Provide advisory services to landowners and stakeholders related to biodiversity and conservation management best practices and utilization of natural resources in accordance with applicable legislation and policies to ensure sustainability and protection of biodiversity. Promotion of Biodiversity Economy and transformation of the Biodiversity & Conservation Sector in the Province. Manage wildlife management projects related to game capture, translocation and relocation. Manage the development of relevant policies, legislation, regulations, strategies, and guidelines. Participate, consult and submit inputs to national legislation/policies. Manage the identification, establishment and maintenance of forums and partnerships that supports biodiversity economy and conservation. Manage and oversee the handling of public complaints about wildlife management and ecosystems management. Perform and manage administrative and related functions; compilation of the sector report and submit monthly, quarterly and annual sub directorate technical reports. Develop an operational plan, action plan and procurement demand plan for the sub-directorate; Manage and ensure the development of human resources; Financial and assets management of the sub-directorate.
