Requirements :

  • A recognized three or four-year qualification, which includes professional teacher education plus 9 years’ experience in the educational field with credible, relevant management experience. Must be registered with SACE. Proven management and strategic leadership skills. A sound knowledge of all major relevant education legislation, regulation, Acts, agreements, and policies, particularly those having a direct impact on curriculum. A good understanding of curriculum transformation issues and capacity building processes in education. A sound knowledge, understanding and experience of CAPS and the National Curriculum Statement (NCS) in Further Education and Training (FET) and another related legislative framework. Evidence of experience in managing curriculum support especially the vocationally orientated programmes (subjects with a PAT component) and intervention programmes in districts and schools. Knowledge and understanding and implementation of the following policies: Assessment, Language in Education, Education White paper 6, e-Learning the Three Streams Model and multicertification projects. Proven experience in managing people, projects finances/ Risk management. Knowledge of PFMA and procurement processes. A good understanding of Matrix Management. Knowledge and experience with MS Teams Meetings and Online platforms. Computer skills (Google Forms and Tools, Ms Word, Ms Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Access, MS Outlook, and Analytical Programmes). Proficiency in report writing, communication, writing of concept documents, presentation and conflict management skills is fundamental. Ability to work under pressure and willingness to work extra hours. Knowledge of and experience in research on the latest developments/trends related to curriculum management and within the technical subject’s field will be an added advantage. Strong analytical skills: data mining and handling, maintaining a database and the ability to analyse and report on information related to learner performance. Track the management and delivery of all activities within the PAT sub-directorate. A valid driver’s license.

Duties :

  • Management and co-ordination of the implementation of programmes within the FET Curriculum PAT (subjects with a Practical Component) sub-directorate. Compliance with a specific focus on the NCS at Head Office, districts, and schools in the province. Manage the human, physical and financial resources to provide efficient and effective curriculum support to districts and schools (especially schools offering PAT/Technical subjects in FET). Enhance the capacity of head office and district officials to ensure effective and efficient service delivery. Establish, maintain and support curriculum structures at head office and district. Ensure participation of head office curriculum officials in National structures. Adhere to and promote statutory prescripts and constitutional imperatives in the technical schooling sector. Engage and interact with all stakeholders to ensure policy compliance and enhance learner performance with a focus on the Practical component. Prepare and report on all program activities and technical subjects projects to the director FET Curriculum and relevant Chief Directorates at Head Office. General Management and leadership functions viz. strategic planning; financial management and control as per the PFMA, operational planning, staff development appraisal project management and general administrative duties. Provide professional leadership through the establishment and implementation of systems and structures that allow for effective management e.g. Mechanisms for quality assurance, effective utilisation of human resources and monitor and oversight). Establish clear channels of communication with relevant stakeholders including establishing relevant partnerships with industry. Manage information by collecting, analysing, translating data into knowledge for planning, decision making and reporting. Keep abreast on the latest research in the field of engineering and technology.
