Requirements :

• MBChB or equivalent qualification. Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an Independent Medical Practitioner. Current HPCSA registration for 2025.Post Community Service Passed Primary exams of the college of the surgeons. ATLS certificate Ophthalmology (FC Opth Part 1) and/or a minimum of two years’ clinical experience, preferably with exposure to Ophthalmology, are an added advantage. Eligibility for, or current enrolment in, the Registrar Training Program with the University of the Witwatersrand. Good interpersonal, academic, and clinical skills. Experience as a Medical Officer in Surgical Department will be an added advantage.

Duties :

• Deliver patient care in the Ophthalmology Department. Participate in the University of the Witwatersrand’s structured registrar training and academic program. Rotate through relevant clinical units and provide service in clinics, theatres, and during on-call shifts. Assist with the teaching of interns, community service officers, medical students, and nursing staff. Engage in clinical audits, departmental meetings, and research initiatives. Maintain professional ethics and standards in line with Batho Pele principles.
