Requirements :

  • Senior/National Senior Certificate (Grade 12) and Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. Advantages: DA (SA) and FCA Part 1. Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as Independent Practice (Medical Practitioner). Proof of current registration with the HPCSA from 01 April 2026 to 31 March 2027. Prior experience in Internal Medicine and primaries FCP part 1 will be an advantage, short courses e.g. ACLS, ATLS and Life support strongly recommended. After hour duties is a necessity. Advanced understanding of Internal Medicine principles, pathophysiology, diagnostics, and management. Ability to assess, diagnose, and manage acute and chronic medical conditions across multiple subspecialties. Skilled in interpreting laboratory results, ECGs, imaging, and other diagnostic tests. Proficiency in performing core medical procedures (e.g. lumbar puncture, central line insertion, pleural taps, arterial blood gases). Effective written communication, including clinical notes, discharge summaries, and referral letters. Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration with colleagues, nurses, allied health staff, and consultants. Commitment to ethical standards, confidentiality, and patient dignity. Respect for diversity and cultural sensitivity. Accurate and timely completion of medical records. Familiarity with hospital protocols, guidelines, and quality assurance processes. Participation in academic activities, research, journal clubs, and departmental teaching. Ability to teach, support and supervise Interns and students.

Duties :

  • Reports to Consultant / Specialist Physician, and Head of Department. Consultations from and to all departments of SBAH on Registrar level. Rotation to sub-specialties and facilities accredited by the University of Pretoria. Assess, diagnose, and manage acute and chronic medical conditions. Participate in ward rounds, outpatient clinics, emergency calls, and after-hours duties. Perform core medical procedures relevant to Internal Medicine. Supervise and mentor interns, junior medical officers, and undergraduate medical students. Maintain accurate clinical records and comply with hospital protocols. Participate in departmental academic activities, including tutorials, case presentations, journal clubs, post graduate academic presentations and morbidity & mortality meetings. Progress toward completion of MMed/FCP requirements. Uphold ethical and professional standards in line with HPCSA regulations. Maintain respectful and compassionate communication with patients, families, and staff. Demonstrate reliability, accountability, and integrity at all times.
