Requirements :

  • Grade 12 or equivalent. Basic R425 qualification (Diploma/ Degree in Nursing) that allows registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse. Registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse. A minimum of 8 years appropriate / recognizable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing. At least 3 years of the period referred to above must be at IPC Coordinator or appropriate/ recognizable experience at management level. Knowledge and Skills: Advanced knowledge of IPC Programme, Management- HR, Project, Financial Management, Report Writing, Time management, strategic and operational planning, SOP development, teaching, problem solving. Must be able to work independently, under pressure, conduct research, foster collaboration and motivate and manage staff. Must be computer literate in Microsoft Package (MS word, Excel and PowerPoint). The applicant must have exceptional communication skills (written and verbal). The following will be an added advantage: 5 years’ experience as Infection and Prevention and Control Clinical Programme Coordinator. Applicant must be in possession of a valid South African driver’s license.

Duties :

  • Establish a system to monitor the implementation of NDoH and GDoH Infection Prevention Control Policy Guidelines and facilitate the review of existing protocols/SOPs. Facilitate IPC research, surveillance, monitoring and evaluation of Infection Prevention and control program. Participate in Provincial and Cluster IPPC Committee structures. Revive and support existing institutional Infection Prevention and Control Committee. Contribute to the development of IPC Strategic Plan and develop IPC Operational Plan aligned to the strategic plan of Gauteng Department of Health. Comple monthly, quarterly and annual Infection Prevention and Control reports. Undertake/conduct infection surveillance, routine data collection and analysis and provide a report and advice management on possible remedial intervention. Ensure that nosocomial infection and outbreaks are investigated, reported and monitor quality improvement strategies. Monitor the availability of supplies required to support IPC programme requirements. Collaborate with managers to develop intervention strategies that promote IPC compliance. Establish and implement a system to facilitate early identification and isolation of confirmed and suspected infectious diseases. Provide training. Manage staff to ensure optimal departmental functioning.
