Requirements :

  • Senior/National Senior Certificate (Grade 12) certificate. Bachelor of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology or Bachelor of Speech Therapy) or appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South African (HPCSA) as an Independent Practice Speech Therapist. Proof of registration with HPCSA as an Independent Practice Speech Therapist, Proof of current registration with the HPCSA from 01 April 2026 to 31 March 2027. Tertiary Hospital experience will be added advantage. Speech Therapist Grade 1: No experience required after registration with HPCSA in the relevant profession in respect of RSA qualified employees who performed community service, as required in South Africa. Speech Therapist Grade 2: A minimum of 10 years of appropriate recognizable experience after registration with HPCSA in the relevant profession in respect of RSA qualified employees who perform community service, as required in South Africa. Speech Therapist Grade 3: A Minimum of 20 years of recognizable experience after registration as a Speech Therapist with HPCSA in the relevant profession in respect of RSA qualified employees who perform community service, as required in South Africa.

Duties :

  • To provide patients within the Speech Therapy department with assessment and management of communication, swallowing and cognitive disorders related to psychological, neurological, head and neck cancer, voice, dysphagia. Must have a high interest in dysphagia management. Be able to manage outpatients case load. Be part of be of the multidisciplinary clinics such as neurodevelopmental and early childhood intervention clinics. To complete and submit daily and monthly statistics and reports. Be willing to be part of Provincial workgroups and contribute to the enhancement of the profession in the public service. Assist in adhering, management and upholding Quality assurance. Assist in mentoring of Community service Therapists Attend multidisciplinary meetings within the institution. Provide an opportunity for innovation of services. Assist the manager to procure and follow up on speech therapy assistive devices Assist in reviewing and developing Speech therapy SOPs. Assisting in research development.
