Requirements :

  • An appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology or a Medical Sub-Specialist in Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Current Registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist or a Medical Sub-specialist in Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Experience: A minimum of 3 years as a Medical Specialist after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology or registration in a recognized Sub-Specialty. Experience in managing a unit or department will be an advantage. The successful incumbent will be required to perform commuted overtime in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Competencies (knowledge/skills): Excellent team player. Strong record of clinical expertise, clinical governance, research, teaching and training at under and postgraduate levels. Excellent managerial, interpersonal, leadership, administrative, communication, analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to supervise clinical and surgical training and teaching.

Duties :

  • Provide supervision and leadership within the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at RMMCH and the University of the Witwatersrand (WITS). Provision of direct clinical and surgical care, supervision and mentoring of subordinates, management of teams. Manage relevant sub-speciality and ensure good management of the sub-specialist unit. Liaise within the relevant cluster to co-ordinate care across different hospitals and reduce overcrowding. Provide support and advisory services to the hospital management team. Manage RWOPS within the unit and department to prevent abuse of the system. Provide excellent clinical and surgical service delivery, a strong teaching and training program and relevant research. Responsible for the teaching and training program of under- and postgraduate students in Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Responsible for management activities within the Obstetrics & Gynaecology department, including related management activities within RMMCH and WITS in order to maintain the quality of outputs while ensuring optimum utilization of fiscal and human resources, and the timeous reporting and redress of Patient Safety Incidents. Initiate, undertake and supervise relevant research in Obstetrics & Gynaecology including the supervision of MMeds. Provide support to the HOD of Obstetrics & Gynaecology. The incumbent may be required to work extended hours.
