Requirements :

  • Appropriate qualification that allows for registration with the HPCSA as a Specialist Plastic Surgeon• A minimum of 3 years’ appropriate experience as a specialist plastic surgeon. Knowledge and skills: Assessment, diagnosis and management of patients with plastic and reconstructive surgery related conditions. Teaching, training and supervision of pre- and post-graduate students. Supervision of research. Understanding of basic Human Resource matters including Labour Relations. Knowledge of legislative prescripts governing public service and child health. Managerial and problem solving skills including performance appraisal and, monitoring and management of Remunerative Work Outside Public Service (RWOPS). Added advantage: Experience in performing plastic and reconstructive surgery procedures, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, supervision of students doing PhD, MMed or MSc, research publications in peer reviewed DHET accredited journals and management skills will be of advantage. A completed PhD will be an added advantage.

Duties :

  • Provide leadership, clinical governance and oversight in plastic and reconstructive surgery in the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital (CMJAH) Cluster. Monitor and develop improvement plan regarding clinical output, patients’ safety incidents and cost containment strategies. Optimally supervise and train junior personal, including specialist working in the area, Registrars and fellows. Participation in research and academic activities including attendance of academic meetings, assessment of pre- and post-graduate students when required. Direct involvement during surgical procedures in theatres at CMJAH and other hospitals in the CMJAH cluster. Ordering of equipment. Quality improvement and cost containment. After-hour duties will be part of the package. Management of RWOPS. Monitoring of performance and appraisal of staff. Development of staff and succession. Timeous response to complaints from patients and families.
