Requirements :

  • Appropriate qualification that allows for registration with the HPCSA as Medical Specialist in the speciality of Neurology or as a recognised sub-speciality of Neurology • Registration with the HPCSA as a Neurologist and proof of current registration. A minimum of 3 years’ appropriate experience as Medical Specialist after registration with the HPCSA as a neurologist. Knowledge and skills: Assessment, diagnosis and management of patient within the registered field. Understanding of basic Human Resource matters including Labour Relations. Knowledge of legislative prescripts governing public service. The candidate should have good leadership skills, excellent communication skills and good management in conflict resolution. S/He must have good resource management skills, problem-solving, decision-making skills, service delivery innovation, empowerment skills Added advantage: Experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, involvement in research and management skills will be of advantage. A PhD qualification with proven research record.

Duties :

  • Provide leadership and management in clinical, risk management and support/auxiliary services in the following areas inpatient management of neurology patients, the general outpatient department, specialist neurology outpatients, and support clinical audits. Provide Clinical government and oversight in the unit and in the CMJAH cluster. Foster integrated care with the department of internal medicine, allied services and the relevant surgical disciplines. Improve speciality driven services linked to NTSG and NHI. Render outreach and support services to other levels of care in the CMJAH cluster. Monitor and develop improvement plan regarding clinical output, new services and cost containment strategies. Optimally supervise and train junior personnel, including specialist working in the area, Registrars and fellows. Participate in research, academic activities at undergraduate and postgraduate level as required. Participate in continuing medical education as required by the Health Professions Council of South Africa. Offer comprehensive, quality care to patients. After hours, duties will be part of the package.
