Requirements :

  • Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Sub-Specialist in Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Registration with a professional council: Current Registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Sub-specialist in Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Experience: A minimum of 3 years experience as a Medical Specialist after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in a normal Specialty or in a recognized Sub-Specialty. Inherent requirement of the job: The successful incumbent will be required to perform commuted overtime in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Competencies (knowledge/skills): Excellent team player. Strong record of clinical expertise, clinical governance, research, teaching and training at under and postgraduate levels. Excellent managerial, interpersonal, leadership, administrative, communication, analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to supervise clinical and surgical training and teaching. Knowledge in Obstetrics & Gynaecology including provision of direct clinical and surgical care, supervision and mentoring of subordinates, management of teams.

Duties :

  • Provide supervision and leadership within the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at DGMAH and SMU complex and provide excellent clinical and surgical service delivery, a strong teaching and training program and relevant research. Liaise with other Obstetrics & Gynaecology specialties at DGMAH and with clinicians in the cluster to provide comprehensive Obstetrics & Gynaecology services. Responsible for the teaching and training program of under- and postgraduate students in Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Responsible for all management activities within Obstetrics & Gynaecology department, including related management activities within DGMAH and SMU in order to maintain the quality of outputs while ensuring optimum utilization of fiscal and human resources, and the timeous reporting and redress of Patient Safety Incidents. Initiate, undertake and supervise relevant research in Obstetrics & Gynaecology including the supervision of MMED mini dissertations. Support to the HOD of Obstetrics & Gynaecology including chairing a Department Committee or equivalent.
