Requirements :

  • Appropriate qualification (MBBCh or equivalent) that allows registration with HPCSA as medical practitioner. Current Registration with HPCSA as Medical Practitioner with Independent Practice at time of starting employment. ALS COURSES: All 3 Advanced Life Support courses must be current by the time of starting the position (allowance of 3 months post-expiration) * ACLS* PALS/APLS* short trauma course i.e., ATLS/ITLS/EMATT. EXPERIENCE: Prior experience of 6 months in an Emergency Department is preferred. BENEFICIAL: Candidates with the following will score higher in shortlisting and interviews: * FCEM Part 1 exams * DipPEC * core e-PoCUS course and certification* DCH and paediatric experience.

Duties :

  • Shift work in Emergency Departments of the joint academic and clinical Department of Emergency Medicine. Internal rotation through both Emergency Department units at the Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital and Helen Joseph Hospital complex. Manage a variety of Emergency Medicine clinical cases including paediatric and women’s health emergencies (at RMMCH); as well as adult medical, surgical and trauma emergencies (at HJH). Promote evidence-based patient care. Clinical supervision and training of junior staff. Participate in departmental academic and research activities. Administrative duties pertinent to the practice of Emergency Medicine (including medico-legal documentation). Commuted over-time is compulsory.
