Requirements :

  • Grade 12 senior certificate or equivalent plus a relevant degree in Occupational Therapy. Current registration as an Independent practitioner with the Health Profession Council of South Africa. Appropriate experience as an Occupational therapist post community service. Competency requirements: Must have knowledge of the Health and Public Service legislations, regulations and policies. Knowledge in procedures of labour relations. Application of clinical Occupational theory, practices and ethics. Communication, report writing, computer, presentation, planning, organizational, research, analytical and decision-making skills. Human resources and Financial management skills. Preference will be given to candidates with proven experience in acute clinical care setting and the supervision of mid-level workers and students.

Duties :

  • The incumbent will be responsible for providing Occupational Therapy services to patients with various acute conditions. Execute optimal Occupational Therapy individual and group treatment for in and out-patients in different subunits (adults, neuro, surgical, ortho. paeds and psych). Should be able to work in an MDT setting and provide supervision of mid-level workers and students. Execute all patients and departmental-related administrative tasks including PMDS, data compilation, stock management, attending various internal and external meetings, and submissions of monthly reports and statistics. Assist with preparations for all internal and external audits in the department/hospital. Assist in the management of all resources of the Occupational therapy department and implement sectional provincial quality assurance measures in the department. Participate in the formulation and review of strategies in allocated area of work as required. Participate in continuous professional development and facilitate those of subordinates according to HPCSA and government regulations in allocated areas of work as well as promoting and carrying out research and other projects in own work area. adhere to all relevant policies, procedures, standards and legislations.
