Requirements :

  • Degree (MBBCH) and currently registered with the Health Professionals Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a medical practitioner. Experience Gr 1: None after registration with the HPCSA as a medical Practitioner. Gr 2: A minimum of 5 years appropriate experience as a Medical Officer after registration with the HPCSA and Gr 3: A minimum of 10 years appropriate experience as Medical Officer after registration with the HPCSA. Experience working in district primary health care (PHC)services and in general medical practice mental health care will be an added advantage. Good professional attitude/conduct, good communication skills, good professional ethics, teamwork ability, good medical record keeping. Willingness to work/participate in outreach programs in any PHC facility in the district health services. Provide commuted overtime as per roster

Duties :

  • Appropriate treatment, in accordance with relevant and applicable guidelines of all acute, chronic and emergency conditions at the PHC level, including HAST and mental health, as well as ensuring proper referrals between clinics and hospitals within the district health services. Use of current clinical protocols and guidelines in patient management. Clinical skills in patient-centered consultation, history taking, examination, investigation and management and ensuring continuity of patient care. Follow correct procedures for the down referral of clients. Support the provision of PHC services in the Community Health Centers and clinics within the district health services (DHS) by providing optimal clinical care, mentoring and supervision of health care professionals, participate in outreach programs and multidisciplinary teams including ward-based outreach teams (WBOT) and community oriented primary care (COPC). Provision of after hour medical services in any designated facility through participation in commuted overtime is mandatory. Support skills development of students and junior doctors through training and participation in CPD/CME. Perform any other duties delegated by Supervisor/Manager and must be prepared to rotate through all designated PHC services and facilities
