Requirements :

  • MBCHB degree and registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an Independent Medical Practitioner. Certificate of registration with Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Practitioner. Applicants must have an interest in Paediatrics and Child Health. Additional related postgraduate qualifications and/or completion of the DCH or part 1 of the FCP (SA) examination will be an added advantage. Ability to diagnose and manage common medical problems including emergencies. Demonstrate the ability to work as a part of a multidisciplinary team. Good communication, leadership, interpersonal and decision-making qualities. Knowledge of current Health Legislation and policies as it relates to Public Institutions. Grade 1: none after registration as a Medical Practitioner with HPCSA. Grade 2: Minimum of five (5) years appropriate experience as Medical Practitioner after registration HPCSA. Grade 3: Minimum of ten (10) appropriate experience as a Medical Practitioner after registration with HPCSA.

Duties :

  • The successful candidate will be expected to be based in the department of Paediatrics and Child Health. Duties will include delivering clinical care to all in-patients in the service unit allocated to as well as performing outpatient clinic duties. The main responsibility will be to assess, evaluate and manage patients in Paediatrics and Child Health, including performance of overtime duties (after hours, public holidays and weekends). Training junior staff (Interns) and promote on-going staff development in accordance with individual and departmental needs. Maintain satisfactory clinical, professional and ethical standards in the department. The successful candidate will work independently but will be supervised by a Specialist Paediatrician. The candidate will be expected to do patient related administrative tasks and schedule follow-up outpatient appointments. A major responsibility will be to keep proper clinical records. The successful candidate will be expected to attend and participate in academic meetings and do case and journal presentation at these meetings.
