M MED (PSYCH) or FCPSYCH (SA) or equivalent. Registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist Psychiatrist is mandatory. Relevant experience in general adult Psychiatry will be a requirement. Scientific conference participation and / or scientific article publication in an accredited journal is a requirement.
Duties :

The post is a joint appointment specialist psychiatrist post with Weskoppies Hospital / Gauteng and the School of Medicine of the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Pretoria. The main tasks of the post will be the management and treatment of general adult psychiatric patients, including the related administrative and medico-legal work. Doing criminal forensic psychiatric observations and testifying in a court of law will also be included, if needed. Successful candidate will be expected to be involved in training and teaching of undergraduate, postgraduate students, medical officers and other health care workers. Doing research and supervising research are part of the duties, also duties will also include general management and administration appropriate to the post, including involvement in hospital and university related committees. An interest in further studies in psychiatry sub-specialties and/ or relevant postgraduate / doctoral degree studies will be recommended. The incumbent is expected to become involved in a outreach services as determined by the department of psychiatry.
