Requirements :

  • Basic qualification accredited with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) that allows registration with the SAPC (Degree in Pharmacy). Registration with SAPC as a Pharmacist. Current proof of valid registration with the SAPC as a Pharmacist (Proof of payment). A minimum of 3 years’ appropriate experience after the registration as a Pharmacist with the SAPC. SKILLS: Good written and communication skills. Interpersonal, supervisory, planning and organizing skills. Knowledge of pharmaceutical process, financial management, relevant legislation and policies, record keeping and drug supply management. Be self -motivated. Work effectively in a team. Good computer skills, including proficiency in Excel and Power-point.

Duties :

  • Supervise and coordinate all administrative and operational functions within your allocated units. Supervision of Main stores, Vacolitre stores, Pre-pack, manufacturing and disposal departments, as well as Inpatients and Ward Services departments of the Pharmacy. To assume responsibility, manage and ensure an effective and efficient pharmaceutical service delivery in the units. Ability to work as a member for a multidisciplinary team and form part of various committees as appointed within the institution. Gather and analyse statistical data for forward planning and demand planning. Prepare relevant reports for management. Procurement and distribution of pharmaceuticals to ensure availability of medicines. Placing orders and follow up on back orders. Supervision of stock orders, receiving, and storage procedures. Ensure safekeeping and security of stock, preventing losses, theft and expired stock. Ensure budget control and avoidance of wasteful and fruitless expenditure. Promote rational medicine use. Conduct cyclic and bi-annual stock counts. Coordination and participation in bi-annual stock-takes, as per auditor general requirements. Ensure thermo-labile products are stored and handled according to manufacturer’s recommendations. Evaluation of the patient’s medicine -related needs by determining the indication, safety and effectiveness of the therapy. Dispensing of any medicine or scheduled substance on a prescription of a person authorised to prescribe medicine. To understand and comply with all relevant legislation and policies to provide a quality cost effective service, including HR and finance requirements. Comply with standard operating procedures and statutory regulations (GPP, GMP, and PFMA incl. cost containment measures). Leave management and perform PMDS of subordinates. Comply with six quality priorities and Batho Pele Principles. Provide in -house training, promoting the rational medicine use principles, monitoring availability of essential medicines, compounding and pre-packing of medicine according to SOP’s. Compliance to SOP’s. Co-ordination of, preparation for & participation in the Hospital PTC and AMB sub-committees. Registered as a tutor for training purposes. Mentoring and tutoring of Interns and Pharmacist Assistants. Promote Public Health. The provision of extended hours, and ‘On call’ services according to the needs of the institution. Prepared to work after hours when required. Perform any other duty within the scope of practice. Promote and aid compliance to ideal hospital framework and the NHI as applicable to Pharmacy. Deputize for the Pharmacy manager when necessary. Support the Pharmacy manager in effective administration of the pharmacy.
