Requirements :

  • Master’s degree in clinical psychology. Current registration with the Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Clinical Psychologist Independent Practice. Grade 1: Must have completed an internship and community service at an accredited facility. For foreign qualified applicants, whom it is not required to perform community service as required in South Africa, applicants must have at least one (1) year experience after registration as a Clinical Psychologist. Experience in community psychiatry will be an added advantage. Grade 2: Five (5) years actual service and recognisable experience as a Clinical Psychologist. Grade 3: Eight (8) years actual service and recognisable experience as a clinical psychologist. A valid driver’s license and basic computer literacy will be an added advantage. Knowledge of legislation applicable to mental health and clinical psychology e.g., Health Professions Act, 56 of 1974, Children's Act 38 of 2005, Mental Health Care Act, 17 of 2002, and National Health Act, 61 of 2003. Having experience in community psychiatry will be an added advantage.

Duties :

  • Ensure effective and efficient management of all patients referred including, Adults and children for Clinical Psychology Services. Provide individual, couple, and family psychotherapy as well as containment and trauma debriefing where indicated. Conduct group sessions as the need arises. Perform psychological and/or psychometric assessments for diagnostic and case management purposes. Compile comprehensive reports and provide assessment feedback to all stakeholders including, but not limited to, patients, guardians and multidisciplinary team members (MDT). It is expected that psychological services be rendered to different clinics as allocated. Adhere to Continuous Professional Development (CPD) requirements as stipulated by the HPCSA, execute administrative tasks, participate in mental health awareness campaigns, offer in-service training to MDT and other stakeholders, promote mental health and clinical psychology services. Adhere to the Ethical Code of Conduct as upheld by the Professional Board for Psychology in South Africa
