Requirements :

  • : Grade 12 (Std 10) plus basic R425 qualification (i.e. diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent qualification that allows registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse and Midwife. Candidate must have a post basic nursing qualification with a duration of at least 1 year accredited with SANC in Advanced Midwifery & Neonatology Nursing Science. A Minimum of 9 years appropriate/ recognizable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse in General Nursing. At least 5 years of the period referred to the above must be appropriate/recognizable experience in Midwifery after obtaining the 1 year post basic qualification in the relevant specialty. Current registration with SANC. The candidate must be conversant with the Maternal Care Guidelines, the EMTCT Guidelines, the data required for maternal and neonatal health. Uphold principle of Respectful midwifery. Be able to provide relief services at supervisory/ management level after hours, cover work on weekends and holidays as per need.

Duties :

  • Manage and coordinate the implementation of holistic, comprehensive specialized nursing care in maternity component. Effectively manage and monitor the utilization of human, financial and material resources. Knowledge of nursing care processes and procedures, core standards and other relevant frameworks such as Nursing Act, OHS Act, Patient Right Charter, Batho Pele Principles, Public Service Regulations, Labour Relations Act, Disciplinary Code and Procedure, Grievance Procedure, etc. Work as part of the multidisciplinary team to ensure quality nursing care. Work effectively, amicably with persons of diverse intellectual, cultural, racial, or religious differences. Able to plan and organize own work and that of personnel to ensure quality patient care through setting of standards, policies, and procedures. Improve perinatal mortality and morbidity through implementation of priority programme, EMTCT, MBFI policy and ESMOE. Random nursing records audits to improve rendering of safe and evidence-based care. Participate actively in decisions making and implement the Nursing strategy to reach the department goals. Maintain professional growth/ethical standards and self-development. Compile and analyze reports to improve quality of patient care. Participate in the implementation of Ideal Hospital Realization and Maintenance Framework to improve the hospital standards. Maintain constructive working relationships with nursing and other stake holders.
