Requirements :

  • Grade 12 Certificate. Subjects such as English, Mathematics/MathematicalLiteracy, Physical Sciences or Life Sciences will be an added advantage. Basic Ambulance Assistant (BAA) Certificate. Current registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Basic Ambulance Assistant, compliant with Continuous Professional Development (CPD) requirements. Proof of current training aligned to Basic Life Support (BLS) Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs), and valid Code 10 driver’s license with a valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP). Previous experience in an operational Emergency Care environment will be an added advantage.

Duties :

  • Render Basic Life Support (BLS) interventions and provide emergency medical care within the prescribed scope of practice of a Basic Ambulance Assistant. Respond to emergency incidents, inter-facility transfers, Gauteng Scheduled Emergency Transport (G-SET), and Planned Patient Transport (PPT) requests in accordance with EMS operational requirements. Perform patient assessment, initiate appropriate treatment, and ensure safe transportation of patients to designated healthcare facilities. Ensure accurate, complete, and timely documentation of all patient care activities through proper completion of Patient Report Forms (PRFs). Maintain operational readiness of ambulances, including cleanliness, equipment checks, and proper management of medical resources. Adhere to infection prevention and control protocols, as well as all applicable EMS policies, procedures, and Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs). Uphold safe driving practices in compliance with road traffic legislation and organisational policies. Provide emergency medical support and standby services during special events as required. Participate in continuous professional development (CPD) and training programmes to maintain clinical competence. Execute additional EMS-related duties as delegated by the supervisor and contribute to overall service delivery objectives. Be available and willing to work shifts, including weekends, public holidays, and after-hours as per operational requirements.
