Requirements :

  • Grade 10 or equivalent qualification with a minimum of 10 years’ porter experience, or a Grade 12 or equivalent qualification with a minimum of 5 years’ porter experience. Porter's experience in a hospital environment will be an added advantage. Must be computer literate. Mortuary experience will be an added advantage. Ability to communicate in different official languages, knowledge of customer care, self-driven and motivated to work in a team. Must be prepared to work on standby, shifts, weekends and public holidays. Must have sound interpersonal and communication skills, and a caring attitude towards patients, relatives, staff members and external clients. be able to work independently and under pressure.

Duties :

  • Escort / accompany patients from reception to various sections, between sections and wards and to and from vehicles. Load and offload patients. Render assistance to nursing staff with the transfer of patients to beds/trolleys and vice versa. Display a caring, respectful, friendly, courteous attitude to all patients, relatives, members of the public, colleagues, Standby leaders, other co-workers and supervisors. Transport corpses to the mortuary, together with the files and complete the mortuary register. Perform other duties as allocated by the supervisor. Ensure that laboratory results are delivered to the wards daily. The red box is collected from the wards to the pharmacy and from the Pharmacy to the wards. Porters carry and deliver Patient files to various units. Check the Oxygen Cylinders daily that are in good working condition. Replace the empty with the full Oxygen Cylinder. Check the Wheelchairs and Stretchers that are in good working condition. Provide support service, supervise, monitor, allocate and delegate porters, PMDS, leave management and render admin services.
